Palmer Park Neighborhood- Housing and Inventory

PALMER PARK ("unincorporated community") designated place located in Landover, Maryland now called Hyattsville. Palmer Park adjacent to Fedex Field. Fedex Field is situated on the old Dairy Farm that operated in the 1950's and 1960's.

HOUSING

PALMER PARK was an enclave of WWII triplex housing units designed as starter homes for young low-income families (less than 13K) surrounded by three (3) parks.  The neighborhood was predominently white (99%) until segregation ended. Blockbusting began in the 1960's and within a two-year period the community went from predominately white to predominantly black. A lawsuit was filed and won by a former resident in the late 1960's.

In despite of its current demographics Palmer Park was home to successful politicians, athletes, and artists.  So, How did Palmer Park become a drug and crime infested closed in neighborhood surrounded by surveillance cameras at every corner, PG County Police Deparment-Barlowe Rd, Palmer Park Community Center, retail, grocery stores, public transporation, and FED-EX Field ("Home to the REDSKINS-NFL")
